About BIS-CRS
- According to the Orders, it is mandated that no individual or entity shall engage in the manufacture, storage for sale, import, sale, or distribution of goods that do not comply with the specified Indian standards outlined in the respective orders. Additionally, these goods must bear the Standard Mark with a unique registration number obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- The Bureau of Indian Standards facilitates the issuance of licenses to manufacturers allowing them to utilize or apply the Standard Mark, along with a unique R-number. This process is conducted through registration based on self-declaration of conformity to Indian Standards for goods and articles.
- The licensing process and its operation under the Compulsory Registration Scheme are executed in accordance with the conformity assessment scheme delineated under Scheme - II of Schedule - II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This framework ensures that products adhere to the prescribed quality standards, thereby promoting consumer safety and confidence in the marketplace.
